Pursuit of Power

What do you want, or want more of, this very instant? Money? Time? Friends? Food? Fun?

How about power? Probably a few of you. I’d wager most of you didn’t think of power when you thought of what you wanted. It was probably either time or money (or to finally get published).

Here lies the paradox: most fantasy centers around a protagonist’s pursuit of power, for one reason or another. How often do you see a protagonist pursue money in fantasy? In any novel, for that matter?

Imagine a world where nothing you did had consequences. Nothing. You could jump in front of a speeding bus and respawn after you died. You could flunk all your classes and just restart from where you left off. You could confess to someone you liked and just restart if you were rejected.
